Sesko transfer latest as Man United, Newcastle 'fight' for Leipzig star

RB Leipzig have reportedly neither accepted nor rejected Newcastle United's offer for Benjamin Sesko.

The Magpies are said to have placed an offer worth €75m (£65.5m) plus €5m (£4.4m) in add-ons on the table for the Slovenia international, as the club look to beat Manchester United to his signature.

However, according to journalist Philipp Hinze, Leipzig are yet to communicate their decision, with the Bundesliga outfit neither accepting nor rejecting the bid for the 22-year-old.

Hinze claims that Man United remain firmly in the race for Sesko, and 'a bidding war' could now develop.

It is understood that further discussions are planned for Saturday evening, and the race is still 'open' despite the fact that Man United are yet to submit an official bid for his services.

Man United are allegedly waiting for Sesko to communicate his desire to join the Red Devils before launching an official offer, but it is unclear whether the bid will be similar to the one submitted by Eddie Howe's side.

Sesko has scored 39 times and registered eight assists in 87 appearances for Leipzig, including 21 goals and six assists in 45 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign.

The striker was left out of Leipzig's pre-season friendly against Atalanta BC on Saturday afternoon, and it has been claimed that he has told his teammates that he will be leaving this summer.

"We won’t go into detail on that, but when I say that several clubs have shown strong interest and have made approaches, it’s obvious what has happened," Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schafer said on Saturday.

There are not believed to be any other clubs in the race for Sesko, so he will seemingly either represent Man United or Newcastle in the Premier League during the 2025-26 campaign.

Liverpool will be hoping Newcastle win Sesko race

Liverpool are allegedly preparing to return with a second bid for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

However, the Reds are waiting for the Magpies to sign a replacement, and it would be a lot easier for Arne Slot's team to sign Isak if Sesko makes the move to St James' Park.

Newcastle are not thought to be the favourites despite showing their hand first, with various reports at the end of last week claiming that the Slovenian prefers a move to Old Trafford.

Leipzig allegedly view Rasmus Hojlund as a potential replacement for Sesko, but the Man United striker has reportedly made it clear that he is not interested in joining the Bundesliga club.
