Aston Villa are preparing for the start of the new Premier League season

Aston Villa have the chance to sell some players before the start of the new Premier League season. The Midlands oufit have the opportunity to free up space and funds in their squad with some exits. That would help balance the books and potentially pave the way for reinforcements to come in.

They have until the end of the transfer window on Monday 1st September to complete any incoming or outgoing bits of business. Unai Emery’s side are preparing for life in the Europa League. They missed out on the Champions League in the last campaign after losing on the final day away at Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Aston Villa could sell goalkeeper

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez is on the radar of Manchester United, as per The Mirror. His current club have a decision to make regarding his long-term future at Villa Park. He is said to be valued at around the £40 million mark.

Martinez, who is an Argentina international with 53 caps under his belt for his country, won the World Cup back in 2022 in Qatar. He has been with Villa since joining them in 2020 and he has been their number one since then. The stopper has made 212 appearances in all competitions, 53 of which came in the last campaign.

The 32-year-old moved to England as a youngster back in 2010 when Arsenal swooped in. He spent a decade with the Gunners and went on to play 38 games for their first-team. The ‘keeper was also loaned out to the likes of Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Wolves, Getafe and Reading during his time at the Emirates Stadium to get some experience under his belt and boost his development.

Who else could leave Aston Villa?

As well as Martinez, Ruben Amorim is also interested in luring Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, as per BBC Sport. he is said to be on the Red Devils’ radar along with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. He still has a couple of years left on his contract so there is no pressure to sell.

Girona are keen on left-back Alex Moreno, the Express & Star claim, and his future continues to hang in the balance. He spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest last term. At the age of 32, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to let him depart now.

In terms of other players who could possibility be sold, CaughtOffside have reported that Emi Buendia may be cashed in on after his recent return from Bayer Leverkusen. The Athletic say Chelsea remain admirers of Morgan Rogers but the ex-Manchester City and Middlesbrough man is in line for a new contract that could see him stick around for longer. Meanwhile, Jacob Ramsey has been on Nottingham Forest’s radar, via Football Insider.

After penning a deal in 2022, Ramsey said at the time: "It's a proud moment for me, especially for my family. I've been here a long time now, come through the Academy, and to sign for another five years at this club, I'm over the moon.

“There's so many people who have helped me get to this point now, I can't thank everyone enough from Under-9s, to being a scholar, to U23s and then stepping up to the first team. It's been good; a lot of up and down moments but it's all part of the journey and I feel like I've been playing well this season so it's nice to be rewarded with a new contract."
