Minteh bags brace in Brighton and Hove Albion friendly at Southampton

_Southampton 2 Brighton and Hove Albion 2_

Yankuba Minteh scored a goal in each half as Brighton and Hove Albion maintained their unbeaten pre-season record at St Mary’s this afternoon (Saturday 2 August).

His brace ought to have sealed a comfortable win for Brighton who dominated the match and had more chances to score.

But a goal from Jay Robinson spurred Southampton into action and they pulled level when Adam Armstrong scored from the penalty spot.

Georginio Rutter played the ball to Minteh for the opener on 25 minutes while Matt O’Riley and Yasin Ayari combined well to set up the Gambian’s second on 65 minutes.

The match was watched by more than 11,000 fans – including a travelling contingent of about 2,300.

Earlier in the day, Albion beat the Saints 1-0 in a 60-minute match behind closed doors after Jeremy Sarmiento scored the only goal in a hard-fought match.

Brighton have beaten Coventry City 2-0, Las Palmas 2-0, Stoke City 3-1 and Wycombe Wanderers 6-1.

The pre-season campaign is due to end next Saturday (9 August) when the Seagulls host Wolfsburg at the Amex.
