Crystal Palace have come to an agreement with Girona for their right-back Arnau Martinez, as Odsonne Edouard is going the other way in a separate deal.
According to Foot Mercato, Crystal Palace are close to an agreement with Girona for right-back Arnau Martinez. The Eagles are set to pay around €10 million for the defender, as they are also ready to allow Odsonne Edouard to join Girona in a €6 million deal.
Crystal Palace have been one of the inactive clubs so far in the transfer market, but the Londoners are set to spring into action. Girona right-back Arnau Martinez could be one of the first stars to come to the club, with the Eagles close to striking a €10 million deal with Girona.
Palace are probably looking to strengthen some aspects of their defence, with Oliver Glasner likes his full-backs to act as wing-backs. Daniel Munoz is the first choice in the position, but with European football available at Selhurst Park, the manager is probably looking to add depth to a position he views as crucial for his system.
Martinez played a big role for Girona last season, featuring in 39 games across all competitions. He can also operate as a wing-back, which does suit Glasner and his plans. West Ham were interested in Martinez, but it appears the Eagles are the ones close to landing the 22-year-old La Liga defender in a €10 million deal.
Meanwhile, Girona are set to sign Palace striker Odsonne Edouard in a €6 million move, which will be a separate deal from the one for Martinez. Edouard played the previous campaign with Leicester City on loan, but featured only four times as a substitute, while making the matchday squad only on seven occasions in what was a dismal campaign for the attacker.
Crystal Palace anticipating sales
Palace are anticipating some high-profile departures, with key men Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze those who are likely to leave. Palace are ready to entertain bids for skipper Guehi, as they are also in the market for a viable replacement. They had Ousmane Diomande in their sights earlier, while Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck has reportedly rejected an approach from the Eagles.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to make a bid for Eze before the window shuts, as the player is open to joining the Gunners before the deadline. Hence, Palace, in light of those potential departures, may have to act quickly in the market to bring in players that are capable of replacing the quality they might end up losing.
