This Aston Villa gem is attracting significant attention from Premier League rivals right now.
West Ham are one of the latest teams to emerge in the picture as the 24-year-old considers potential options elsewhere to gain more playing time.
Ramsey was side-lined for a chunk of last season due to a hamstring problem. He featured in 29 games under Unai Emery, starting 19 and coming off the bench on 10 occasions. Recent reports suggest his future could lie elsewhere and he won’t be short of suitors if Villa do choose to sell.
West Ham ‘trying’ to sign Jacob Ramsey this summer
According to reporter Tom Collomosse, West Ham are ‘trying’ for the signature of Ramsey this summer. Aston Villa have been looking to see a figure in the £30-40 million region before they consider a sale.
The versatile 24-year-old is ‘highly regarded’ by Emery, so it may not be easy to strike a deal unless the right amount of money is put on the table. He remains under contract in the West Midlands until 2027, so the club aren’t under any immediate pressure to rush through a sale.
West Ham are on the market for new attacking options this window, having agreed the £55 million sale of Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham Hotspur. The Irons are looking to replace the influential and versatile forward, who operated across the front three and in midfield last season.
Lucas Paqueta is also expected to leave the club this summer, leaving West Ham with work to do to bolster their ranks.
Tottenham also want Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa
Having already signed Kudus from West Ham, Spurs are also rivalling them for the signature of Ramsey.
Last month, TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey reported that the north Londoners and Newcastle United have been long-term admirers of Ramsey and remain ‘hugely keen’ on the idea of bringing him in.
While Villa see Ramsey as a key part of the team, both the club and the player have been ‘considering’ whether a transfer is the best course of action for him this summer.
“Jacob Ramsey is a huge talent, nobody has to tell Aston Villa that,” Bailey said. “But is he central to their plans? Maybe not, and the player knows that. Sometimes a move can just suit a player and a club, and this could be one of those instances.”
Ramsey’s prominent position is on the left and Spurs will need to start looking for replacements for club icon Heung-min Son following his announcement that he will leave the club this summer. The South Korean star confirmed his ‘difficult decision’ during a press conference, calling an end to his ten years with the club.
Son wants to start a new chapter in the MLS and Los Angeles FC have reportedly accelerated their talks with the 33-year-old over a deal this window.
