Liverpool 'will come back' with new Alexander Isak bid after offering 'well under' asking price

The latest on Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak, as well as transfer news for Newcastle United.

The Premier League champions have made an official approach in attempt to sign the Swedish superstar but Newcastle United are digging in their heels and making it clear he’s not for sale.

We’ve rounded up the latest on Liverpool-Isak saga, along with a fresh transfer target update for the Magpies.

Liverpool final Alexander Isak bid is ‘nonsense’

Liverpool remain keen on Isak and despite reports that their rejected bid has ended their approach, there’s still life left in this transfer saga.

Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has given some extra insight into one of the biggest transfer stories of the window. While Newcastle United are standing firm on not selling Isak, that could all change if they manage to sign leading target Benjamin Sesko.

“If Newcastle signed Sesko, I’m 90 percent certain Isak leaves. Sesko is the Isak replacement,” he said on his YouTube channel. The Magpies do face fierce competition from Manchester United, though, but Downie believes Newcastle ‘have a chance’ of winning the battle thanks to the terms they have offered the RB Leipzig star.

“Alexander Isak is expected back on Tyneside this weekend and he’ll meet with Eddie Howe when they return so let’s see what happens there. But obviously if Sesko comes in, that will allow Isak to go and of course, Liverpool will come back an increased bid,” Downie continued.

“All this nonsense about ‘that’s Liverpool made their final bid’, they’ve not made their final bid. There’s four weeks of the window to go. They’ve bid well under what Newcastle are wanting, of course they’re going to come back in.”

The 3AM Verdict: Liverpool would add the icing onto their cake with the signing of Alexander Isak. Their constant presence in this transfer chase could well pay off, providing Newcastle land their replacement and can finally entertain offers. The striker has been training away from the club and new reports claim he is set on a move to Anfield. It seems that all is standing in the way is convincing the Magpies to cash in.

Yoane Wissa ‘trying to force’ Newcastle move

Newcastle have had rotten luck with a number of targets so far this window and they’re determined not to let a deal for Yoane Wissa slip away.

The Magpies have seen a £25 million bid rejected by Brentford, who are holding out for more money, but their rivals ‘aren’t going to walk away’ from the table. Wissa himself is also determined to see a move come to fruition, having vocalised his desire to leaves the Bees.

“The only obstacle is that Brentford are reluctant sellers, having sold Bryan Mbeumo to Man United this summer they don’t want to lose both of their key players in the same window.

“He’s trying to force this move to Newcastle and that’s encouraging for Newcastle, he’s doing everything he can to push through a move to St James’ Park.

“Newcastle aren’t going to walk away from this after having one bid rejected, they will make an improved offer for him. I think if Brentford can find a replacement for Wissa, Brentford will reluctantly let him move on.”

The 3AM Verdict: Newcastle are looking to spend more money but just simply haven’t been able to in recent weeks. After bringing in Anthony Elanga, the Magpies have had a streak of bad luck as target after target has snubbed St James’ Park for another club. Signing Wissa will be a huge boost for the club and the fans, especially as it seems the player is just as eager to see the deal happen as the club.
