Fabrizio Romano says Benjamin Sesko transfer saga reaching ‘decision time’ as Man Utd make new contact

The transfer saga of Benjamin Sesko and the tug-of-war between Newcastle and Manchester United are about to reach a conclusion.

Ever since Man Utd made Benjamin Sesko their priority target for the striker position ahead of Ollie Watkins, they’ve been locked in a battle.

Newcastle are desperate and ready to pay whatever the club and the player want, but Man Utd fans have taken encouragement from the fact that the Newcastle move would have already happened if the player was interested.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared that Man Utd made new contacts with Leipzig on Saturday night (August 2nd), and the saga is close to completion.

Benjamin Sesko Man Utd transfer latest

Sesko is Christopher Vivell’s crown jewel, which is why United have prioritised signing him ahead of a Premier League-proven option like Watkins.

Despite being just 22, United are clearly convinced that Sesko, when he reaches his vast potential, has the potential to be a game-changing presence up front.

Therefore, they are trying really hard behind the scenes to win the race for his signature, and in the process, land a third hammer blow on Newcastle’s window.

Having already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from under Newcastle’s noses, this would be the most public rejection, if it happens.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, said that clarity, either way, is arriving soon.

He said: “We are entering into really important stages. The agent of Sesko is in Leipzig to speak with the player and help with negotiations. It’s decision time.

“Man Utd made clear to RB Leipzig on Saturday night that they will send a bid for Sesko if the player opens the door. They feel he is still deciding; he hasn’t decided to go to Newcastle. Utd made new contact with Leipzig.”

Man Utd’s all-in gamble on Sesko

While it should be appreciated how hard United are trying to sign Sesko, the chase being so public is a double-edged sword for the club.

With less than a month to go in the window, and the first Premier League game in less than two weeks, United have gone all-in on the Slovenian.

The flipside is that if Sesko decides to join Newcastle instead, United will be left in a position where the whole world will know their desperation to sign a striker.

Villa won’t budge from their asking price for Watkins, and other clubs will raise their asking price for their players if United enter discussions.

That is over and above the public sting of rejection they will have to face for the second time, having seen Liam Delap go to Chelsea.

Delap’s rejection is what has led United to this place where it increasingly looks like Sesko or nothing. They will hope that the second time’s the charm.
