'I would've liked that first': David Moyes publicly declares the position he's desperate for…

Everton manager David Moyes has made it known what area of the pitch he’s desperate to strengthen in this summer transfer window.

The new 2025/26 Premier League season is fast approaching, and Everton’s squad is some way off where David Moyes would like it to be.

Moyes has admitted it’s been a struggle to get players in, with many of their top targets rejecting them for European football elsewhere.

The Scotsman sat down with the media on Saturday ahead of the final pre-season game against Manchester United in the US, and declared the signing he’s keen to get done.

David Moyes declares the ‘priority’ for Everton

Everton are exploring a number of deals at the moment, with the latest rumour linking Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to the Finch Farm.

Leicester City’s James Justin is also on Moyes’ radar, with the club likely to launch a bid for the £6m-rated defender.

Whilst those two deals are being worked on, Moyes has just come out and explained that his real priority signing is a right winger.

“It’s been a priority all summer, actually. Probably of all the positions, having a right-sided player is probably what we’ve wanted,” the 62-year-old said.

“I would’ve liked that first if possible, but we’ve tried for quite a few and not got them over the line yet.”

Everton keen to sign Southampton winger Tyler Dibling

Everton were looking at Malick Fofana from Lyon, however, the Belgium winger is stalling on a move to Merseyside as he’s aware of Champions League interest.

Moyes has turned his attention to Tyler Dibling, with the club preparing a second offer, having had a £27m bid rejected.

Dibling is understood to be keen on a move to Everton, so there is genuine hope of that transfer materialising.

Plus, Southampton are already looking for a Dibling replacement, so it’s clearly moving in the right direction.

There is a feeling the Championship outfit would accept a bid in the region of £40m, so there is still a sizable gap in valuations at this stage.
