Sky Sports: Newcastle now make contact to sign Premier League ‘monster’ alongside Sesko

Newcastle are considering a summer move for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed.

The Magpies are planning to bring in a new centre-back before the transfer window shuts on 1 September and have identified the Frenchman as a strong option.

Eddie Howe’s side are believed to have already made contact with Disasi over a potential move to St James’ Park, although a new number nine is thought to be their top priority at the moment, with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko now the subject of a £70m bid.

Axel Disasi for Aston Villa

According to Tavolieri, Newcastle are planning to sign a central defender this summer and have earmarked Disasi as a potential candidate:

Disasi returned to Chelsea following a five-month loan spell at Aston Villa, where he made only 10 appearances across all competitions, starting six times.

The ‘monster’ 27-year-old, who joined the Blues from Monaco in 2023, faces stiff competition for minutes under Enzo Maresca next season, with Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Newcastle remain focused on signing a new striker before the window closes, with Leipzig’s Sesko still a priority target regardless of Alexander Isak’s future.

The Magpies rejected an initial proposal from Liverpool worth £120m+ for the Sweden international this week and have no intention of parting ways this summer.
