Newcastle United are one of the clubs in the picture to sign Royal Antwerp’s Mahamadou Doumbia this summer.
On July 21st, Africa Foot reported Newcastle are very interested in the midfielder, who has a €20m release clause. They also explained that Eddie Howe is a great admirer of the player.
Along with Newcastle, the Mali international has been linked to other clubs, including Napoli, Juventus, Marseille and RC Strasbourg.
De Zondag in Belgium have interviewed the 22-year-old and part of it was on his future.
He joined the Jupiler Pro Leaue club in September 2023 and signed a contract until 2027. Doumbia only started to enjoy regular minutes since last season, playing 2,660 minutes from 34 games.
De Zondag pointed that out to him that claims elsewhere have reported Newcastle United, Napoli, Juve, Marseille and Strasbourg are interested.
Responding to that, he said: “Only Strasbourg is wrong.”
This clearly indicates he has confirmed Newcastle as one of his interested parties. The report makes no mention of a release clause and says there’s been a talk of €15-20m as his price.
The Malian insists he’s ready to make a jump this summer if Newcastle or another club were to make a concrete attempt.
“We’ll see. I’ve let my agents know I don’t want to hear anything about it until it becomes concrete. When that happens, I’ll be ready. If a club pays that [€15-20m] or me, then I’ll be worth it,” Doumbia explained.
