Josh Brownhill has been linked with a move to Everton for a number of weeks now.
In just over two weeks, Everton face Leeds United in the Premier League season opener, and there is still a lot of work to be done on the recruitment front.
With that in mind, the Toffees have been linked with a move to sign Brownhill after the Englishman left Burnley at the end of their promotion-winning campaign.
However, as per the latest reports, Everton could be set to make a costly error.

Brownhill could be set for a massive contract
Several clubs have expressed an interest in Brownhill this summer, with it claimed that Toronto FC have offered the midfielder a three-year deal worth £100,000 per week.

If Everton are serious about their interest, they would likely have to match that, and if so, it would cost them around £15.6million in wages across the three years.

Brownhill became Burnley’s biggest goal threat during their promotion campaign last time out
For a player known for his ability in the Championship, that would be a ludicrous amount of money, and almost certainly not a deal worth pursuing.
At that price, there will be significantly better options, and if Everton push forward with this, it has the potential to be an absolute howler made by TFG.

Brownhill is not the answer for Everton
At best, Brownhill would bolster the depth at Everton, when in reality, they are still in need of reinforcements that boost the quality of their starting 11.
Those behind the scenes on Merseyside will be hard at work to ensure that happens over the next few weeks, with the transfer window due to close on 1 September.
Moyes has done a lot of good work with the Toffees since his return, but his ability to progress further will largely be determined by the business they do between now and then.
