Former Real Madrid winger set for PL return?

Aston Villa could still be in pursuit of Spanish winger Marco Asensio, who was on loan at Villa Park last season from Paris Saint-Germain enjoying a stunning spell under Unai Emery.

During his loan stint with Aston Villa, Asensio was vibrant, and his performances delighted the Villa Park faithful. The attacker scored 8 goals in 7 matches across three competitions.

It is understood by Essential Football from reputable sources that Aston Villa are keen on having Asensio back at the club, and a return should not be ruled out. The Spaniard has been available on the transfer market with the treble winners, Paris Saint-Germain, seeking to offload the left-footed attacker.

The contract scenario

At the moment, Marco is training with his parent club, Paris Saint-Germain, in order to remain fit and contribute to the side if needed. However, Asensio’s future at the Parc des Princes seems extremely bleak. Game time under gaffer Luis Enrique has been scarce without much chance of improvement.

The 29-year-old forward has one year left on his contract, and with no tangible signs of negotiations, he could well be headed for the exit doors. Also implying this summer transfer window could be the ideal and practically last opportunity for Paris Saint-Germain to extract any sort of monetary value from his transfer.

Several clubs across Europe have been linked with the signing of the former Real Madrid star. Turkish giants, Fenerbahce, currently under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, are among the teams in contention for his signature.

The Birmingham Mail claims that a transfer fee between Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbahce had been agreed. However, Asensio’s massive wage demands served as a hindrance, not letting the deal materialise so far.

Return to Villa Park

Marco Asensio would certainly be eyeing a part in Spain’s World Cup campaign next year. The same objective might be achieved with grit, determination and most importantly, regular game time. Returning to Villa Park under the guidance of experienced manager, Unai Emery could certainly benefit the attacker.

It remains to be seen if Aston Villa will be able to make another purchase this transfer window before successfully offloading players first after the club narrowly missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification.

Whether other PL get involved remains tom be seen but Newcastle United and Manchester United could be interested although Asensio’s age might put them off.
