Of course, it is getting to that time of year when Graham Potter has to make some serious decisions as to the players he wants to keep and those he wants to discard: Whether that be into the ‘sale’ pile or the ‘loan’ category. At this stage last year Lopetegui decided to push youngsters Potts and Earthy out on loans to the Championship, from which it must be said they’ve both returned far stronger, fitter, more driven young men who both look Premier League-ready.
So, several fringe players will be waiting for the metaphorical ‘tap on the shoulder’ informing them that for this coming season at least, their future lies away from West Ham to get game time, fitness and experience.
According to a Swansea fan site who claim, apparently, exWHUemployee as their source, such a future awaits Hammers youngster Kaelan Casey. Whilst I have not been able to verify the original report, it would seem to make good sense as the Irons have a full contingent of four centre backs this year with Nayef Aguerd likely staying at West Ham, unlike 12 months ago where Casey was kept as cover for Lopetegui’s trio of first team centre backs.

Casey needs football, rather than being held ever-ready and willing on the bench but not getting game time. Hopefully he will replicate the success stories of West Ham’s 2024-5 loanees and come back ready to push for the first team place he obviously covets.
