Ruben Amorim has pledged to restore Manchester United to Premier League glory and is targeting a two-decade reign at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese manager inherited the club midway through last season and endured a torrid campaign as United slumped to a dismal 15th-place finish – their worst-ever Premier League showing.
However, the 40-year-old tactician has begun transforming the squad's mentality and remains adamant he can guide United back to the summit. Despite having just two years remaining on his deal, with the option for a third, Amorim has expressed his desire for a lengthy tenure similar to Sir Alex Ferguson's legendary 26-year spell.
"I want to stay," declared Amorim. "I want to stay for 20 [years]. That's my goal and I truly believe in that. Something will happen. It always does. In some moments I will be lucky. I had a lot of luck during my career as a manager and my idea is to stay for many years.
"But again, we know that the results will dictate that. I know that last season I used up all the credit I had but I'm ready to start afresh.
"At Sporting it was the same thing. They said that in three months I'm out. They said that I had a three percent chance of winning the title with Sporting.
"I know that the pressure is different. But I don't like to change clubs. I like to bond with people and carry on. So I was there five years and in the last years I was waiting for the right club.
"I know it sounds crazy but I chose this club, I had the feeling and I just want to bond, to be a part of it and I will stay here."
When questioned about why he was so confident about returning the glory days to Old Trafford, Amorim stated: "I have no doubts, because there are some things that you cannot buy and that this club has. The pedigree, the history, the fans. We have that.
"I think that is clear. Then the money. We have money. We have money without the Champions League. So we have money and we'll have more money in the future. We're doing everything.
"You talk with Omar [Berrada, chief executive] and all these guys, they are making all the strategy to have more money in the future. So that will not be a problem.
"Then I think it's clearly the culture. If we have a different culture, with all of that, with all of the pedigree, the money, all of these things, we can return to our place - that is clear."
