Chelsea have had some incomings in this window with more expected to come, meaning they’re turning their attention to outgoings and clearing out the squad. One such name expected to be on the chopping block is Renato Veiga, whose recent move to Atletico Madrid fell through.

Veiga featured on and off in the first half of the campaign as rotation at left-back and centre-back. After arriving from Basel, it was a relatively big step up for the Portuguese defender but it seemingly wasn’t enough. He made a surprising loan move to Juventus during the winter window and moved mostly into the centre of the defence instead of the left-back role he played for the Blues.

Described as a “wantaway misfit” by SI, he was left out of the Club World Cup squad entirely and has been trying to get a move away from Chelsea this summer. SI did praise him for his versatility, which is his key trait as he’s able to play different defensive positions and even as a defensive midfielder.
Saudi Interest
In a sweeping report on multiple deals, Ben Jacobs has mentioned that Saudi Arabia could facilitate an exit for the defender. This comes after his move to Atletico Madrid fell through. While there was no club mentioned, it could be that Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr is interested in his countrymen.

Veiga has been capped five times by Portugal and split his previous season between Juventus and the Blues, making 15 appearances for the Serie A side and 18 for the Club World Cup champions. He has bounced around a fair bit at club level having been at Sporting Lisbon’s youth academy, Basel, and FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga already.
