Another Liverpool star agrees personal terms for summer exit after Luis Diaz

Liverpool’s summer shuffle isn’t slowing down. After waving goodbye to Luis Diaz earlier this month, the Reds are preparing for another big-name departure. Darwin Nunez, once seen as the future of Liverpool’s front line, has reportedly agreed personal terms in principle for a move away from Anfield.

The Uruguayan striker joined in 2022 with high hopes and high energy. His speed and work rate turned heads.

His goals — 40 in total — came in bursts, but not quite at the level Liverpool expected. And now, it seems the club is ready to turn the page.

Reports suggest Saudi clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli are pushing hard for Nunez. A move to Napoli was on the table earlier this summer, but talks reportedly fell through due to price issues.

The Saudi sides, however, are said to be comfortable meeting Liverpool’s £60 million-plus asking price.

Nunez has seen the writing on the wall. With Hugo Ekitike showing promise, Florian Wirtz already in, and Alexander Isak a possible arrival, it’s clear the club is building something new.

As journalist Graeme Bailey (via TBR Football) explained, “Liverpool respect Nunez hugely… but it has not worked out for him and he accepts that too.”

Can Hugo Ekitike replace Darwin Nunez at Liverpool?

With Nunez edging closer to the exit, attention now turns to Hugo Ekitike. The young French forward has reportedly impressed early in pre-season.

Quick on the turn and composed in front of goal, he’s showing signs that he can grow into the role. But can he fill the boots of a player who arrived with such big expectations?

Ekitike brings a different style — calmer, more technical, less chaotic. While Nunez had raw pace, Ekitike may offer smarter movement and better link-up play.

If he settles quickly, Reds fans might just warm up to this quieter kind of striker.

For Liverpool, this isn’t just a summer clear-out. It’s a rebuild with purpose. And while Nunez’s exit may sting for some, there’s hope that Ekitike could be the real deal.

Although the Reds are also chasing Alexander Isak, who could be a major upgrade to Nunez. As for now, its Ekitike who can act as a backup replacement.
