James Maddison was carried off the pitch in visible agony during Spurs' pre-season face-off with Newcastle. The injury seemed fairly harmless as Maddison stumbled and hobbled to the pitch's edge.

He then collapsed, requiring medical attention, before being stretchered off by medics. The incident happened with just four minutes left on the clock in Seoul.

Spurs players were left distraught, with Son Heung-min seen looking away from his stricken team-mate. Maddison's predicament will be a major worry for new gaffer Thomas Frank, especially with Spurs' season kick-off against Burnley less than two weeks away.

Before that, they square up against Bayern Munich in their last friendly before the UEFA Super Cup showdown with French titans Paris Saint-Germain.

Since his transfer from Leicester in 2023, Maddison has donned the Spurs jersey 75 times. He's netted 16 goals and set up 21 more, contributing to the club's Europa League victory last season.

The scoreline was evenly matched at 1-1 when Maddison got injured, following goals from Brennan Johnson and Harvey Barnes. The match also marked Son's final appearance for the club, having announced his departure in a press conference, reports the Mirror.

He wore the captain's armband for Spurs in his homeland and was overcome with emotion as he left the pitch shortly after the hour mark. Announcing his departure, he said:

"Thank you for having us again here in Korea for the second year in a row. Everybody really appreciates it. It's just incredible. Yesterday at the airport we felt the welcome. Everybody loved this and can't wait to play tomorrow.
