Watch: Son given guard of honour on final Spurs appearance

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min bade an emotional farewell to the club on Sunday, being given a guard of honour from both his teammates and Newcastle United players in their friendly in South Korea.

The 33-year-old revealed at a press conference on Saturday that he planned to leave the Europa League winners this summer, bringing the curtain down on a golden 10-year spell in North London since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

Son made the announcement before Sunday's showdown with Newcastle in Seoul, a game in which the South Korea legend was contractually obliged to play in as part of a commercial agreement.

Thomas Frank confirmed that Son would start for and captain Spurs at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, where Brennan Johnson gave Tottenham the lead inside four minutes before Harvey Barnes's equaliser.

With 65 minutes played, Son's number went up on the board, and players from both sides came together to form a tunnel for the attacker to run through, a gesture that was met with warm applause from fans and players alike.

Son then shared a warm embrace with fellow Spurs veteran Ben Davies, before clapping the Seoul fanbase and making way for new signing Mohammed Kudus.

Son transfer latest after final Tottenham appearance

Tottenham have one final friendly against Bayern Munich on Thursday, where Son would reunite with former deadly double act partner Harry Kane, but the 33-year-old will likely have completed his move away by then.

Spurs are understood to be in advanced discussions with Los Angeles FC over a deal for the former Leverkusen man, who has already given the thumbs-up to a move to the MLS outfit and is close to an agreement on personal terms.

Tottenham were originally said to have been after around £20m to let Son leave this summer, and as much as £30m to sell him to the Saudi Pro League, but there is optimism that a deal will be struck with LAFC for around £15.1m.

The attacker will leave Tottenham as their fifth-highest scorer of all time, boasting a stellar 173 goals from 454 games in all tournaments, which also makes him the club's highest non-English scorer in history.

Son also became just the 13th Tottenham captain to lift a trophy in last season's Europa League, and he has more Premier League assists than any other Spurs player with 71.
