Manchester United are continuing to be linked with a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

United are advancing on a deal to sign Sesko, but will be wary that Newcastle are also in the hunt for the Leipzig striker. Reports on Saturday claimed that the Magpies had submitted a £65.5million to try and sign Sesko, with suggestions that the offer is still below the Bundesliga outfit's asking price.

Sesko did not feature for Leipzig on Saturday in their pre-season friendly against Atalanta. Leipzig's sporting director Marcel Schafer admitted the ongoing speculation about the striker's future led to the decision being made to not include Sesko in the squad to face the Serie A outfit.

Now a fresh update has emerged about United's quest to sign Sesko. The Mirror have reported that United have now opened talks with Leipzig to try and sign Sesko this summer, as they look to beat Newcastle to his signature.

The report claims that United's talks with Leipzig will ramp up once with squad returns from their pre-season tour of the United States. Ruben Amorim and Co. face Everton in Atlanta on Sunday in their final friendly match of their tour across the Atlantic.

If United were to sign Sesko, it would create uncertainty around Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund's futures at Old Trafford. As the Manchester Evening News have reported, United are willing to accept £30million for Hojlund this summer, which would see them net a loss under the Premier League's Profit & Sustainability Rules.
