Liverpool’s search for a new striker is heating up — and they’ve made their move. But it wasn’t quite the winning goal. The Reds reportedly saw their first bid for Alexander Isak turned down by Newcastle United.
Still, it looks like this game is going into extra time.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via his YouTube) has now confirmed that Liverpool are planning a second approach for the Swedish forward.
The initial offer, believed to be around £120 million, was rejected. But this wasn’t just about numbers. It was a message.
“Liverpool wanted to show to the player: ‘Okay, we are really ready.’ That’s not just an informal conversation,” Romano explained. “That’s not just a verbal proposal. It’s an official bid.”
The move makes it clear — Liverpool are serious about bringing Isak to Anfield.
And with the striker training alone in Spain instead of touring with Newcastle, signs suggest he’s open to the switch.

How much Liverpool could end up paying for Alexander Isak
Newcastle are holding firm on their £150 million valuation for now, but it’s unlikely they’ll keep their star striker without a serious battle. Isak is under contract until 2028, giving the Magpies leverage. But Liverpool reportedly have no plans to walk away.
Romano added, “It’s still the beginning of August. There’s still plenty of time to go before the end of the transfer window.”
He further added, saying: “So let’s follow the next steps of this story because Alexander Isak and Liverpool is not over today. Trust me,”
That means negotiations will likely continue — and Liverpool may have to up their offer to get it over the line.
While Newcastle want to keep him, a bigger bid might test their resolve. Although Liverpool are unlikely to make £150 million bid.
Isak, at 25, fits Liverpool’s long-term vision and could become the new No. 9 at Anfield. The only question now is how high Liverpool are willing to go.
