A new striker has been added to Newcastle United’s striker shortlist of alternatives if they can’t sign Benjamin Sesko or Ollie Watkins, according to reports.
It’s been an absolute slog of a summer transfer window for Newcastle United and, with just two weeks until the new Premier League season begins, Eddie Howe has hardly strengthened his squad.
Anthony Elanga has been signed but otherwise Newcastle have missed out on several top targets, especially up front.
Newcastle already needed reinforcements ahead of the Champions League campaign, but Alexander Isak’s desire to join Liverpool has only increased the importance.
The fact that Newcastle played winger Anthony Gordon up front in their friendly draw with Tottenham on Sunday shows how light they are on options in attack.
Newcastle are interested in Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins, but now Goncalo Ramos is being considered as an alternative.

Newcastle United considering PSG striker Goncalo Ramos
According to Craig Hope in the Daily Mail, Newcastle have put Ramos on their ‘list of alternatives’ should Newcastle be frustrated in their ‘pursuit’ of Sesko and Watkins.
Newcastle were keen on Ramos in 2022 before signing Isak, with the Portuguese forward instead moving from Benfica to Paris Saint-Germain the following year.
MORE NEWCASTLE STORIES
Ramos has 33 goals in 86 matches in Paris, and has a Champions League winner’s medal after PSG finally won the famous trophy last season.
It’s reported that PSG are ‘open to him leaving this summer’ and that he is a ‘name to keep an eye on’ for Newcastle fans.
Which striker will Newcastle United sign this summer?
On Friday, it appeared that Newcastle’s chances of signing Sesko from RB Leipzig were dead, with the striker set to join Manchester United.
However, hopes were revived and Newcastle are reportedly still in the Sesko race, after making a club-record bid, even if Man Utd are still favourites.
If Sesko does head to Old Trafford, that will be another striker Newcastle have lost out on after Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
There won’t be many options left but Watkins and Yoane Wissa remain on the radar, and now they’ve been joined by Ramos.
The 24-year-old hasn’t reached the potential expected of him at PSG but still managed to score 19 goals and set up a further six last season, despite largely playing a substitute role.
Ramos is still at a good age, younger than both Watkins and Wissa, and has shown potential.
If he’s available at a good price (unlikely given he cost around £70m and has three years left on his deal) it could be a shrewd move.
However, with proven Premier League pedigree, Watkins or Wissa may be better buys.
