Today, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe once again said that he has no idea what the outcome of Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak will be.
The Tyneside outfit played out a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon and after the match, Howe attended a press conference where he was inevitably quizzed on Isak’s future.
With Isak reportedly expected to rejoin Newcastle training on Monday, Howe was asked if this is true and what will happen with the striker’s future at St. James’ Park.
The manager replied: “Of course I’d like him to be, but whether he will I don’t know at this moment in time. Other people have been dealing with that situation back at home.”
This answer suggests that there are more twists and turns to come in this transfer story despite the insistence of reporters close to Liverpool that the Reds will not submit a second bid after having an opening £110m bid rejected this week.
Newcastle want Ben Sesko response within 24 hours amid optimisim that agreement with RB Leipzig is close
Newcastle United’s pursuit of RB Leipzig giant Benjamin Sesko is believed to be intrinsically linked to Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Craig Hope, Newcastle spoke to Sesko’s agents today and want a reply within the next 24 hours.
Florian Plettenberg corroborates this, reporting: “Decision soon from BenjaminSesko. Leipzig boss Marcel Schäfer met with Seskos’s agents in Leipzig yesterday and today.

“Sesko‘s decision will be crucial for the next steps from Newcastle or Manchester United. All parties now want clarity as soon as possible.”
Finally journalist Ben Jacobs says that Newcastle are “prepared to improve their €75m+€5m offer to Leipzig with optimism a fee and structure can be agreed. Fixed fee already meets Leipzig’s valuation.”
Jacobs added: “Both clubs waiting on Benjamin Sesko’s decision, which is now expected quickly. “
Liverpool are paying very close attention
Liverpool decision makers Richard Hughes (sporting director) and Michael Edwards (CEO of Football) will be watching this deal unfold with bated breath.
As soon as agreement in place, expect some movement on Liverpool’s end in response to Newcastle signing a player worthy of replacing Isak.
Liverpool opened their bidding with a £110m offer but if the widespread reports are accurate, they will return with a second offer that should get them closer to signing Isak.
