Reports: Juventus, Marseille finalize deal for Timothy Weah

After a month of July in which things were very much not quite simple when it comes to determining which club he was going to be playing for this coming season, Timothy Weah appears to have finally resolved where his future will lie.

And it won’t be in Turin.

According to the likes of Fabrizio Romano and others amongst the Italian press, Juventus and Marseille have agreed to a deal for the 25-year-old Weah, The USMNT winger will reportedly move back to Ligue 1 on an initial season-long loan deal, but Marseille will have an obligation to buy worth €14 million plus another €3 million in potential in add-ons. On top of that, Juventus will also reportedly have a 10% sell-on clause whenever Weah does likely move on to another club after his time at Marseille comes to an end.

All told, that is a haul that will probably come out to around €20 million. Considering what Nottingham Forest first valued Weah at, that is a pretty good outcome for Juventus and Damien Comolli when it’s all said and done.

Considering what has happened between Weah and the club over the course of the last month, it’s pretty safe to say that both sides are probably pretty happy that the uncertainty is over and they can move on with their respective preparations for the 2025-26 season.

Just think about it for a few seconds.

At the end of June, Weah looked to be potentially going to Nottingham Forest as one half of a two-player deal that also involved Samuel Mbangula. Weah, however, wasn’t so keen on that, rejecting the move to the Premier League after he was held out of Juve’s Club World Cup group stage finale against Manchester City. (Mbangula ended up rejecting the move as well.) The chance to potentially go to Marseille quickly emerged, only for Comolli and Juventus to start demanding a better financial package once it looked like a deal was close to being completed.

That, as we know, resulted in Weah’s agent expressing his displeasure with how Juve — and most likely Comolli, although he wasn’t actually named — were handling things.

Less than a week later, Weah has gotten the move to Marseille — and a return to France after playing for Paris Saint-Germain and more recently Lille before his move to Turin — and Juventus get a nice sum of money for a player who clearly wasn’t in Igor Tudor’s plans once the 2024-25 campaign came to an end.

Weah got what he wanted. Juve got what they wanted. And now we can say that Juve’s American contingent is about to be officially cut in half once all the press releases are published online.
