Rodrygo makes Real Madrid decision

The Brazilian’s decision complicates Madrid’s summer plans, leaving Xabi Alonso with a bloated squad and rival clubs watching closely.

Rodrygo has informed Real Madrid that he intends to see out the remaining three years of his contract, despite the club exploring ways to reshape their squad under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

Madrid have already signed Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen, Álvaro Carreras and 17-year-old Franco Mastantuono, moves that have left them with 25 senior players and a need to offload several names.

Among those facing uncertain futures are Fran García, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos, David Alaba and Rodrygo, whose role diminished significantly last season.

A Madrid source told La Vanguardia that Rodrygo has made his stance clear: he wishes to fulfil his contract, even as Madrid consider cashing in, with offers around £85 million reportedly on the table.

His limited involvement during the Club World Cup and the expected rise of Mastantuono and Arda Güler have fuelled speculation over his place in Alonso’s plans.

Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham, have been linked, but Madrid’s problem remains unresolved.

Alonso has said he is counting on the player, yet the club’s recruitment and wage structure suggest a major sale could still happen if they can get the player to agree to leave.

Madrid view a potential Rodrygo exit as an opportunity to fund defensive reinforcements, with Manchester City’s Rodri identified as a target, albeit an extremely difficult one to secure.

For now, however, Rodrygo has blocked any move, leaving Madrid’s squad clear-out stalled.
