Manchester United are gearing up for the start of the new Premier League season
Manchester United have the chance to sign some more players before the end of the transfer window. They also have the opportunity to let some individuals head out the exit door as well if needed. That would help free up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for reinforcements.
Ruben Amorim is gearing up for his first full season in charge at Old Trafford. He was picked as their replacement for Erik ten Hag in the last campaign. Prior to his move to England, he caught the eye in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon.
Manchester United eye Fermin Lopez
According to journalist Sebastien Vidal on X, United are ‘preparing’ a £61million bid for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez this summer. They are being linked with a swoop for the La Liga man. League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest.
Reporter Vidal has posted on social media: “Manchester United are preparing a £61m (€70m) bid for Fermin Lopez. Barcelona want to keep their midfielder but, facing financial issues, won’t rule out a sale if the offer arrives. Chelsea, Arsenal have also made enquiries.”
Lopez, 22, has been with Barca since joining them back in 2016. Prior to his move, he spent time on the books of fellow La Liga outfit Real Betis. He has since risen up through the ranks at Camp Nou and was initially a key player for the B team before breaking into the first-team picture.
The Spain international, who has two caps to his name so far in his career, was loaned out to Linares in 2022 to get some experience. Upon his return, he has become a useful squad player for the senior team. He has made 88 appearances in all competitions to date and he has chipped in with 19 goals, eight of which came last term.
What now for Fermin Lopez amid Manchester United links?
United could see Lopez as someone to boost their midfield department. If he joined, he would give the more competition and depth in the middle of the park. Time will tell whether they will be able to snap him up in the near future.
Regarding how pre-season is going, Amorim has said: “I think are we better in every detail, in the organisation of the day-by-day. The nutrition is better, the way we cook, what we eat, how we prepare training. I think that we are more organised. I think we have people now that help us to be better. I'm not concerned with small things and I was last year.
“So, those things help us and help me to think more about watching the game, watching the team. So it's a big help for me. When it's a big help for the technical staff, it's a big help for the players.”
He added: “Then, I think the players are working really well and they understood that they need to give 100%. If they don't give that, it's going to be hard for them here. So, that is also important.”
