According to Fabrizio Romano, Alejandro Garnacho has given Chelsea a big boost in the transfer market by making the Blues his top priority this summer. The 20-year-old has made it clear that he wants to stay in the Premier League and is focused on Stamford Bridge as “his total priority”, but there is still a long way to go before a deal is done.
Chelsea have started talks with Garnacho’s camp, but they haven’t started talking directly with United yet. The price is the problem. Manchester United are said to want more than £40 million for the Argentine, but the Blues don’t want to pay more than £30 million. The move is still stuck in limbo until the gap in value gets smaller.
The timing also makes things harder. Chelsea are currently focusing on getting rid of players and finalising a deal for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, which has slowed their efforts to get Garnacho. That means a possible deal could happen in late August or even the last few days of the transfer window.
Garnacho has turned down offers from clubs outside of Spain/local clubs, even though teams like Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and Aston Villa are interested. The winger is said to want to continue growing in England, and Chelsea is a good place for him to do that, as he will get to play and experience a new environment. He is reportedly unhappy with his role at United under Rúben Amorim, and the manager has not attempted to conceal his feelings.
“Things don’t always go as planned…” Amorim told reporters, “The player wants something else with a different leadership,” which all but confirmed that Garnacho will leave soon.
