Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Brentford ace Yoane Wissa.
According to a report from TalkSPORT, Yoane Wissa could end up parting ways with Brentford before the end of the transfer window. While the Bees were reluctant to sell the DR Congo international, they seem to have softened their not-for-sale stance.
The change in stance is a significant boost for Newcastle United and Tottenham, who are keen on adding the 28-year-old striker to their squad ahead of the new season.
Wissa has been a part of the Brentford setup since 2021. While he was more of a backup option in the initial years, he has been their mainstay in the final third since the departure of Ivan Toney.
Last season, he was on fire as he scored 20 goals and also bagged five assists in his 39 outings across competitions. His impressive performances in the English top flight have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs.
Newcastle could return for Wissa’s signature
Newcastle United seem to be the biggest admirers of the 28-year-old. The Magpies are in the market for multiple strikers amidst uncertainty around Alexander Isak’s future, even though he is set to return to training.
They knocked on Brentford’s door back in July after they failed to sign some of their top targets. The Tyneside club submitted multiple offers for the 28-year-old, including one which was worth £30 million up front with an extra £5 million in add-ons.
Brentford’s Director of Football Phil Giles made it clear to the Magpies that they won’t sell him unless they receive a fee in excess of £50 million. While the Bees have been adamant that he is not for sale post-Bryan Mbeumo’s departure, they have softened their stance in recent days.
Tottenham could rival the Magpies
They are willing to sanction his departure if they can bring in a replacement. It gives Newcastle a realistic chance of signing him, and they could soon return with another offer. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also keen on his signature.
While they forked out a fortune to sign Dominic Solanke last summer, the move didn’t really work out. They are hoping that he can bounce back this season, but also want someone who can compete with him for a place in the starting XI. Wissa is a Premier League-proven striker, and Spurs can certainly bet on him.
