Wolves suffered defeat in Spain as the Old Gold lost their penultimate pre-season clash against Girona.
After losing against RC Lens, there was hope that Wolves would get their first win of pre-season on the board against Girona.
Vitor Pereira’s side are still waiting for their first victory, as Girona beat the Premier League representatives 2-1.
Just like the clash against Lens, Wolves started the game with great intensity, but as the contest went on, levels dropped, and the hosts came out hungry.

Wolves player ratings vs Girona
Jose Sa – 6
Wolves’ control in the first half saw Sa have a rather quiet evening.
Ki-Jana Hoever – 8
Hoever played like a player fighting for his future, energetic, attack-minded and showed great positioning going forward. Strong final ball, was able to burst into the box numerous times.
Santi Bueno – 5
Bueno was caught on his heels for Girona’s opener and was then left spellbound by Joel Roca’s strike. Poor return to his former club.
MORE WOLVES STORIES
Emmanuel Agbadou – 7
Girona couldn’t get near the low driven passes Agbadou was playing into feet in the final third, a strong presence at the back, commanding in nature, but was guilty of a bit of flippancy when in possession.
Toti Gomes – 6.5
Strong performance from Toti, whose intelligence both in and out of possession shone through.
Rodrigo Gomes – 6
Tireless energy, fighting for every loose ball, playing as though he has a point to prove.
Marshall Munetsi – 6
Picked up some great positions around the box, almost like a floating role.
Andre – 7.5
Andre is untouchable in this Wolves side, marshalling the area in front of the back three exceptionally well.
Joao Gomes – 8
Gomes paired with Andre is a match made in heaven; the Brazilian’s counterpart allows him to venture forward to try and make a difference.
Fer Lopez – 7
Lopez looks the real deal, neat in possession and not afraid to show off some skills. Very high footballing IQ, will be a joy to watch in the Premier League.
Jorgen Strand Larsen – 6.5
Strand Larsen was good at linking play and clever with his movement, but would’ve been frustrated by how little service he got throughout the contest.
Substitutes
Sam Johnstone – 5
Replaced Sa at half-time, punched a cross instead of catching it, which eventually led to Girona opening the scoring.
Hugo Bueno – 7
Fantastic crossing ability, as shown when taking corners, replaced Gomes to add more of a defensive edge to the left side.
Matt Doherty – 6
Replaced Bueno to join Mosquera and Mosquera in the back three, didn’t make a huge impact, but did the job that was asked of him.
Jhon Arias – 8
Lively debut for Arias, the Colombian won the pressing battle and almost set Strand Larsen up for a goal shortly after coming on.
Arias then went the extra mile to score on his non-competitive debut, showing off his pace, strength and finishing skills with an impressive goal.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 6
Added some dynamism going forward, strong runner on the ball.
Yerson Mosquera – 6
So good to see Mosquera back in action after his terrible knee injury early into the 2024/25 campaign. Looked towering alongside Agbadou at the back. Good passing range.
Hwang Hee-chan, Sasa Kalajdzic, Pedro Lima – N/A
Introduced late into the game.
