Strikes from Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen gave the Hammers the victory in a game which Andoni Iraola’s side had the better of the play.
It was a showing that would have been pleasing in the main, though, for Iraola, as Bournemouth looked largely the better side, although they lacked clinical finishing in the final third.
But it was defeat to end their Premier League Summer Series campaign in the USA.
Alex Scott came into the starting XI in Atlanta after he missed the Manchester United defeat with a knock, while Illia Zabarnyi continued to start despite talks over a move continuing with PSG.
The Cherries started well and dominated possession in the opening proceedings.
Scott had a shot blocked from outside the box from a corner, before a good chance saw Marcos Senesi play Adrien Truffert in behind, his squared ball reaching David Brooks whose effort was cleared behind.
_(Image: Robin Jones/AFC Bournemouth)_ Evanilson struck the post after eight minutes in a chance where he really should have scored.
A good switch ball from Tyler Adams found Marcus Tavernier, and his ball across the box reached the Brazilian in acres of space, but he could only strike the upright from close range.
Hamed Traore shot just wide via a deflection moments later, before Tavernier hit the side netting after he was found by a Traore ball over the top.
West Ham eased their way back into it and opened the scoring against the run of play after 24 minutes.
Malick Diouf picked out Jarrod Bowen at the far post, and his shot was blocked well by Truffert, but it fell back to the Englishman, who calmly squared it for Fullkrug to side foot home.
_(Image: Robin Jones/AFC Bournemouth)_ The Cherries nearly drew themselves level three minutes later as Zabarnyi smashed the crossbar from a Scott cross.
The Cherries continued to have the lion’s share of possession and territory, but it was the Hammers who had the most presentable chance before the break, Luca Paqueta dragging wide from the top of the box.
There were two changes made at the break as Djordje Petrovic came on for Neto in goal and Antoine Semenyo replaced Tavernier.
The best early chance of the second half went the way of the Hammers nine minutes into the half, but they squandered a three on two on the counter attack as Bowen sliced well wide.
Despite that chance it was the Cherries who again had more of the ball, although they weren’t able to create any presentable chances early on.
Evanilson glanced a header wide from a Truffert cross on the hour, before the Brazilian hit the woodwork again, blocking an Alphonse Areola clearance onto the upright.
Despite their possession, the Cherries found themselves 2-0 down after 68 minutes.
_(Image: Robin Jones/AFC Bournemouth)_ Diouf put in a brilliant, whipped cross from the left-hand side and found Bowen, who guided the ball into the far corner.
After the goal, Iraola made four changes. Julian Araujo, James Hill, Eli Junior Kroupi and Dango Ouattara replaced Adam Smith, Senesi, Evanilson and Traore.
The Cherries continued to press but couldn’t find the final pass or shot to breach the Hammers defence.
Iraola made five more changes as Ben Winterburn, Chris Mepham, Romain Faivre, Remy Rees-Dottin and Julio Soler replaced Adams, Zabarnyi, Scott, Brooks and Truffert.
Kroupi fired in a powerful volley from a corner that was won by Ouattara with some good work on the right, but the Frenchman’s shot was into a crowd of players and didn’t reach the target.
That was to be the final chance for the Cherries as they ended their Summer Series in defeat.
They return home and face Real Sociedad next weekend in their final game of pre-season before the season begins at Liverpool.
