Ruben Amorim must send Ineos message after watching £42m Man Utd star struggle

Ruben Amorim was given plenty to think about during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Everton.

Manchester United will return to England as the Premier League Summer Series champions after going on a three-match unbeaten streak in the 2025 pre-season US tour.

However, the Red Devils were minutes away from making it three wins out of three before drawing 2-2 with Everton in Atlanta.

Ruben Amorim was unhappy with United’s defence against Everton after his players made several sloppy mistakes.

Bryan Mbeumo impressed on his debut and Matheus Cunha has shown his quality on tour, but Ruben Amorim will be pushing Ineos to bring in reinforcements after the Everton draw.

Manuel Ugarte struggles reinforce need for a new midfielder

Before Mbeumo had even arrived in Manchester, reports claimed Amorim wanted an “athletic” midfielder to be signed this summer.

So far, United have not shown any concrete interest in any midfielders despite being urged to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton.

Instead, Ineos are pushing ahead with their plans to sign a new striker, with talks underway for Benjamin Sesko.

But Amorim will have to remind Ineos about his desire to sign a midfielder after watching Manuel Ugarte struggle against Everton.

The Uruguayan midfielder started alongside Kobbie Mainoo and was targeted by Everton’s press. Ugarte lost possession for Everton’s first goal, and made several costly errors early in the second half before being replaced by Casemiro.

Amorim’s system requires both central midfielders to be comfortable in receiving the ball, resisting the press and progressing play, but he may have doubts over Ugarte after what he saw in Atlanta.

Ineos know what they must do after Benjamin Sesko

Ineos have turned away from Ollie Watkins and are pushing to make Sesko United’s fourth major signing of the summer.

United are ready to bid for Sesko to hopefully beat Newcastle United to the RB Leipzig striker’s signature, and a deal for the Slovenian will likely take the spending this window to over £200 million.

But Amorim still needs extra reinforcements if he is going to lead a push for European qualification next season.

A new midfielder is needed, and Amorim will want one to arrive sooner rather than later.

United can still fund a mega deal provided they can sell the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho this summer, but so far that has proven difficult.
