Concerns growing around Joel Embiid knee health

Joel Embiid's long-term durability is once again in question, as NBA insider Brett Siegel reports “genuine concern” around the league about the 31-year-old’s knee health. Despite downplayed messaging from Philadelphia, insiders say the outlook is troubling.

Joel Embiid health continues to be a major talking point in NBA circles, with one insider suggesting the situation might be worse than publicly acknowledged.

"As for Embiid, there is genuine concern about his knee health. Of course word from Philly gets downplayed, but around the league, word is bad," NBA insider Brett Siegel reported.

Now 31, Embiid’s durability is under more scrutiny than ever. The reigning MVP has played only 58 games over the past two seasons.

In the 2024-25 campaign, he managed just 19 appearances, averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists while shooting 44.4% from the field and just 29.9% from beyond the arc.

Since being drafted in 2014, Embiid has missed 400 games and played in 446 — a stunning contrast that highlights how injuries have defined much of his career.

He missed his first two full seasons due to a foot injury and has battled chronic knee problems ever since.

The Philadelphia 76ers had one of their worst seasons in recent memory, finishing 24-58 and missing the playoffs.

Injuries were a constant theme — Tyrese Maxey missed 29 games, Paul George was unavailable for 41, and Embiid sat out 63.
