£39m United star shouldn't be starting vs Arsenal, was gifting possession to Everton

Manchester United played out a 2-2 draw against Everton in yesterday’s friendly in the United States.

The Red Devils have had a solid pre-season with victories over West Ham United and Bournemouth.

They were front-runners to beat the Toffees in Atlanta, but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.

Bruno Fernandes was once more the standout player with a penalty goal and an assist.

However, there were some disappointing displays too. Manuel Ugarte, who was dominant against West Ham last month, was pretty much dominated by the Toffees last night.

The Uruguayan gifted possession in the lead-up to the Toffees’ equaliser. He was robbed off the ball trying to dribble out of defence. His second half display was much worse.

Between the restart and the hour mark, the former Paris Saint-Germain man was guilty of losing possession on at least seven occasions. Fortunately, the Toffees did not capitalise.

The £39 million-rated star managed to find composure thereafter, but the lack of control in the centre of the park was quite evident which should be a huge concern for manager Ruben Amorim.

We are less than two weeks away from the Premier League curtain-raiser against Arsenal at home. The midfield combination of Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo have not exhibited much confidence.

United are seriously looking into the transfer market for a potential new midfield addition. A holding midfielder must be prioritised with Casemiro also no longer in the prime of his career.
