'100% duels' Man United star managed to outshine brilliant Bryan Mbeumo debut against Everton

Bryan Mbeumo made his Manchester United debut against Everton on Sunday evening but he was outshone by one teammate.

Manchester United drew 2-2 against Everton in the final match of the 2025 US pre-season tour, meaning the Red Devils have been crowned Premier League Summer Series champions.

After being left out of the games against West Ham and Bournemouth, Mbeumo made a brilliant debut against Everton, starting alongside new signing Matheus Cunha.

But the £65m signing was only given 45 minutes of action before being replaced by Patrick Dorgu at half-time.

Bryan Mbeumo certainly impressed, but it was one of United’s goalscorers who outshone him against Everton.

Mason Mount was nearly flawless for Man United vs Everton

Amorim opted for a new-look front three against Everton, with Cunha and Mbeumo starting up front alongside Bruno Fernandes.

But Amorim looked to his bench in the second half and brought on Mason Mount – United’s No.7 ended up making the difference by scoring a superb curling effort.

Mount nearly added an assist to his tally late on after finding Dorgu with a brilliant threaded pass.

As pointed out by Statman Dave on X, Mount won 100% of his duels against the Toffees and ended with one goal and one big chance created.

The 26-year-old took 17 touches of the ball, including his incredible first touch inside the box before swivelling and firing past Jordan Pickford.

It was a near-flawless performance from the substitute, who is clearly ready to fight for his spot.

Mason Mount ready to compete with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo

United have spent over £130m to bring Cunha and Mbeumo into the squad this summer and add to Amorim’s attacking options.

Both new signings will expect to start in the two No.10 positions in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, meaning Mount will be pushed down the pecking order.

However, United fans were amazed by Mount against Everton, and it was not his first impressive performance on tour.

Mount starred against Bournemouth in what was easily United’s best performance in the United States.

There will be plenty of attention on how Mbeumo and Cunha perform this season, but don’t rule out Mount stepping up for Amorim in 2025/26.
