Why Cole Palmer's boyhood pal will not be copying celebration if he scores for Stockport

Cole Palmer has claimed the ‘cold’ celebration for himself during his sensational spell at Chelsea but one of his close pals refuses to copy the England star even if he finds the net

Cole Palmer’s childhood friend Lewis Fiorini refuses to copy his pal’s celebration in the face of potential ridicule. The Chelsea star has regularly deployed his trademark ‘cold’ celebration during his time at Stamford Bridge.

And having scored 43 goals for the Blues since his move from Manchester City in 2023, supporters have been treated to the celebration on a host of occasions. And while Palmer has become synonymous with it, his childhood friend Fiorini is not as convinced.

The Stockport County man admits that he would not follow his pal’s lead should he find the net having revealed the roots of the celebration. Speaking to The Sun, the 23-year-old said: “I wouldn’t do it. I can imagine the messages I’d get if I did. It’s not for me, that one.

“But that celebration is actually pretty new. He didn’t do that when he was younger, I don’t know where he’s pulled that one from! He’s made it his trademark now, though. Everyone’s looking to do it.

“Cole’s just a lad from Manchester - fame definitely hasn’t changed him. He’s the same kid everyone sees in interviews and things people see online. That’s him, that’s Cole being himself and that’s good. Some people change when they get to that level but it’s credit to him that he’s not done that.

“When people interview him, they get what he is whereas other people try and change or become media trained. Cole and I played at City together from being five or six-years-old right the way until I left last summer.

“So we were together for 15 or 16 years and played in midfield together. We’ve been close all that time.”

And while Fiorini has revealed that Palmer’s celebration is brand-new, another of his childhood friends, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, revealed that it was his first. He said: "Yeah, it's true. Cheeky boy, isn't he? He's run with it.

"I'll let him have it - he's scored 40 goals or something stupid so I can't really argue with that, can I?"

Palmer himself confirmed that he had stolen the celebration from Rogers. He said: "My boy Morgs did one for Middlesbrough, so I told him I’d do it too if I scored."

Both Palmer and Rogers will certainly hope that they will be celebrating plenty this season. Chelsea get their Premier League campaign underway against Crystal Palace in a fortnight, while Villa’s season starts against Newcastle.
