Wolves midfielder reflects on what club must do before Man City

The latest Wolverhampton Wanderers news from BirminghamLive as midfielder looks ahead to the new season

Wolves star Jean-Ricner Bellegarde enjoyed reminiscing on special moments despite defeat to his former club RC Lens in midweek.

Having come through the youth ranks with the French club before being given his senior debut in red and yellow, Bellegarde has a soft spot for the side who won 3-1 in Walsall on Wednesday night.

He said: “It was really good for me. I remember when I played there and I felt good, so I was very happy to see the gaffer and the players. For eight years I was playing in Lens and I have so many memories from my time there and it was a very good time for me.

“I remember a lot of moments from this club, so it was nice to speak again with the gaffer and the players, but now I’m too happy to be here.

“The players were saying to me ‘Now you’re strong because you play in the Premier League, you’re much stronger and you played well’. We didn’t win but we need to win the next game and score more goals to increase the confidence.

“Although we didn’t win, I feel the players have more power in their legs and are more physical. We need to keep going and keep pushing to be ready for the start of the first game of the season against Man City.

“My team-mates here are really good, but we need more time and enjoy being together when you have time out of the pitch. If you enjoy being together as a team you can play better on the pitch and have more connection.

“I remember last year was a very difficult start to the season, so now we need give our best if we want to start well.”
