West Ham United continued their positive pre-season with a win against Bournemouth.

The Hammers defeated the Cherries 2-0 on Sunday (3 August) in Atlanta to finish runners-up in the Premier League Summer Series.

Goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen gave Graham Potter‘s side their third win in four games this summer, with defeat to Manchester United the only blemish on their record.

While the two West Ham goalscorers were the main stars in the victory over Andoni Iraola’s side, former Hammers midfielder and manager Martin Allen singled out one of West Ham’s young stars for praise.

Potts, 21, has returned from a loan spell at Portsmouth this summer, and was able to control the game against a very strong Bournemouth side.

Allen praised the young midfielder’s energy during the win, saying via his X account (3 August): “Add Freddie Potts, too. What a good performance from him. Good energy; strong, tenacious, pacy player.”

He was also highly impressed with El Hadji Malick Diouf’s performance, saying: “What a good signing at left wing-back. Made two goals and looks a proper player.”

West Ham need to take pre-season momentum into Premier League campaign

The Hammers have looked a completely different side this pre-season from the one that ended last season, where they won five of their last 18 games.

Confidence is flowing through the side right now, and that needs to carry on into the season.

West Ham have been great so far this pre-season

With London derbies against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the first seven Premier League games, any momentum that can be carried into the league season will only help the Hammers in the long run.
