Manchester United are heading into the business end of the summer transfer window with less than two weeks until their Premier League season opener against Arsenal.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon have all arrived so far but there has been little movement since. Mbeumo's switch from Brentford took over a month to be completed and the ongoing search for a striker continues to cause headaches.

After missing out Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap, the Reds are now prioritising a move for Benjamin Sesko. Newcastle are also in the race for the RB Leipzig star with various outlets suggesting the player is yet to decide on his preference.

In a dream scenario, United will get the striker through the door before the first game of the season. For that to happen, a formal bid will have to be tabled this week and personal terms will have to be agreed.

On Sunday night, former Middlesbrough star and now TV pundit Jan Aage Fjørtoft provided an update on the situation. Writing on X, formerly Twitter, he insisted that meetings between Sesko's camp and Leipzig have taken place to find the best outcome.

Fjørtoft adds that a decision on where Sesko will go will be made in the coming days with United needing to 'demonstrate they can fund the deal' while Newcastle are demanding confirmation that they have a chance.

Fortunately for United, Fjørtoft has claimed that United is Sesko's first choice but he still needs to be convinced that the Reds can get the deal done. It's also thought that a deadline has been discussed for Sesko to make a decision by.

There is the prospect of more incomings before the window shuts, but a more likely focus could be on outgoings in the next seven days.

Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Antony have all been linked with moves away with United still needing to raise funds. Exits for Garnacho and Sancho seem the most likely but there has not yet been any official bid.

During his sit-down interview over the week, Ruben Amorim revealed that Garnacho wants something different this summer. After being excluded from the pre-season tour, Garnacho has been training separately from the first-team squad.
