Sesko deadline expires today as Man Utd and Newcastle learn decision

Decision time: Benjamin Sesko

The Magpies' tough summer window continued last week after seeing their £70million bid for Sesko rejected by RB Lepzig. The Athletic's David Ornstein reported on Sunday that the Bundesliga side want a sell-on clause in any deal.

Man Utd are yet to make a bid for Sesko but have, according to Fabrizio Romano, signalled their intention to match Newcastle's offer.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: "We are entering into really important stages. The agent of Sesko is in Leipzig to speak with the player and help with negotiations. It’s decision time.

“Manchester United made clear to RB Leipzig on Saturday night that they will send a bid for Sesko if the player opens the door. They feel he is still deciding; he hasn’t decided to go to Newcastle. Manchester United made new contact with Leipzig."

In demand: Benjamin Sesko

It has repeatedly been reported that Sesko would prefer a move to Old Trafford over Newcastle, as Eddie Howe faces up to the likelihood of being rejected by yet another striker target, following Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo and Hugo Ekitike this summer.

And now Newcastle want an answer from Sesko on Monday, August 4, 2025, having set a deadline of today to find out once and for all if the Slovenian is open to moving to St James' Park.

Daily Mail report that Newcastle are ready to move on to other targets if Sesko opts against joining the club, and Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos is next in line for transfer advances.
