**Fabrizio Romano has provided some interesting extra context to the £110million opening bid they had rejected by Newcastle United.**
The Merseysiders are obviously very set on holding onto the Premier League title they lifted in May and while the signings they’ve made so far are more than capable of accomplishing that, signing Isak is an era defining move.
Newcastle – for all the money their owners have – are hamstrung by PSR regulations and beyond that, are simply at a different stage in their project under PIF.
Liverpool’s owners, FSG, set them on this path in October 2010. While the American ownership has had to put up with constant crticism (often rightly earned), they have proven over the long term how they are the perfect owners for this club.
Their careful money management has allowed Liverpool to grow off the pitch and that behind-the-scenes growth is now paying dividends in the way of multiple marquee signings.
Should Liverpool sign Isak – let’s say for £120m – in addition to Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, that would equal £315m of investment in three top players.
And it would appear that Liverpool’s recent bid was not just about signalling to Newcastle the seriousness of their intent – but to Isak as well.
Liverpool’s £110m was a message for Isak more than it was for Newcastle United
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to trusted transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool had more than one reason motivating their massive £110m bid for Isak even though it was rejected immediately by Newcastle United.
The Italian journalist reports via [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-1GfjnjOSM&t=169s&ab_channel=FabrizioRomano): _“Liverpool know that this is part of the game. It’s still beginning of August. There’s still plenty of time to go before the end of the transfer window._
_“Liverpool wanted to show to the player: ‘Okay, we are really ready.’_
_“That’s not just an informal conversation. That’s not just a verbal proposal. It’s an official bid._
_“So Liverpool sent a clear message to Alexander Isak: We are here. We are ready. We have the money. We are prepared to make something important.”_
Isak has been training on his own since the saga really ramped up and Eddie Howe admitted on Sunday that he still unsure if the forward will return to Newcastle training.
As the Premier League season draws closer (11 days away at time of publishing), the more and more it seems as though Isak will join Liverpool and Romano seems to be of the same mind.
Romano added: _“So let’s follow the next steps of this story because Alexander Isak and Liverpool is not over today. Trust me.”_
