'Disappointed': David Moyes says he’s had to speak to one Everton player privately

Everton played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester United last night in the Premier League Summer Series – and David Moyes had some strong comments about one player ahead of the match.

Everton fell behind after a challenge in the box by James Tarkowski on Amad Diallo, with many fans believing it was extremely soft. Bruno Fernandes converted the penalty.

The Toffees then got back on level terms just before half-time, with Idrissa Gana Gueye floating a lovely ball over the top for Iliman Ndiaye to steer in.

Mason Mount put United back in front in the second-half, before Everton got back on level terms again through a somewhat amusing mix up leading to an own goal.

It was actually a decent performance from Everton on the night, but one man who unfortunately drew some criticism was Beto – and not just from fans.

Beto was one of the real success stories in the second half of last season.

He could really buy a start under Sean Dyche, but had a new lease of life when David Moyes came in.

He ended up scoring seven Premier League goals after the Scot’s arrival, and fans loved his renaissance as he is a play who genuinely cares about becoming a success.

Unfortunately, last night Beto was on the receiving end of a rather worrying verdict from Moyes, who spoke ahead of the game.

The Scot said: “I’ve been a bit disappointed with Beto and I’ve told him. We’re needing a bit more and he can do more and he has done more.

“So we’re hoping we can get a bit more from him, but he’s a really honest working lad and I’m sure he’ll try and prove that tonight.”

Moyes has previously suggested Beto needs to improve his touch for Everton, but frustratingly not a lot stuck to the striker during last night’s game against United.

It was a chance for him to respond to the comments from Moyes, but he struggled.

David Moyes’ Beto admission will alert Thierno Barry

It was really interesting to hear Moyes publicly say what he said about Beto.

Moyes said he’s told Beto what he thinks, but one wonders what the striker makes of the manager making that public information.

One man who may now be on alert is new signing Thierno Barry.

Barry replaced Beto last night and again looked lively, and the Frenchman might just fancy his chances of potentially starting that first game against Leeds United in a couple of weeks.

As for Beto, his situation will be one to watch.

Beto has had transfer interest from Leeds United this summer and it may not be out of the question he could yet leave.
