LeBron reportedly called Luka Doncic after his Lakers extension

LeBron James reportedly FaceTimed Luka Doncic to congratulate him on his new three-year, $165 million deal with the Lakers, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Luka Doncic blockbuster three-year, $165 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t go unnoticed — especially by his superstar teammate.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, LeBron James FaceTimed Doncic on Saturday morning to personally congratulate him on the deal.

Though LeBron wasn’t present at the team’s press conference later that day, the gesture reportedly highlighted his support for the team’s major move.

Neither James nor his son, rookie Bronny James, attended the Lakers' official media session on Saturday, which was led by general manager Rob Pelinka.

Head coach JJ Redick, along with players Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, Deandre Ayton, Gabe Vincent, and Jaxson Hayes, were all in attendance.

Notably, Austin Reaves was also absent, currently overseas on a promotional tour in Asia for his signature Rigorer shoe.

In June, LeBron’s agent Rich Paul stirred some speculation about his client’s long-term plans with the franchise, saying, “He knows the Lakers are building for the future… but he values a realistic chance of winning it all.”

Doncic, for his part, expressed excitement over teaming up with one of the game’s all-time greats. His manager, Lara Beth Seager, released a statement via ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne: “Luka has nothing but the utmost respect for LeBron and considers it an honor to be his teammate.”
