How Chelsea now feel about Tyrique George pushing to leave amid Bundesliga interest - journalist

It was revealed on Friday that Tyrique George was a player RB Leipzig were looking at, with Chelsea seeing the German side as an ‘interesting’ home for the English winger to play his football next season.

Tyrique George is the latest Chelsea attacker to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

George is on Leipzig’s radar, having been mentioned during Xavi Simons negotiations as a Leipzig target.

The 19-year-old wants to play regular football, something that doesn’t look likely with Chelsea’s current attacking options.

While most Chelsea fans agree a loan would benefit George, new information from Fabrizio Romano suggests the deal being discussed is a permanent move.

Chelsea prefer to keep Tyrique George but accept possibility of a permanent move

Not too long ago, competition for first-team minutes wasn’t putting George off, with the youngster keen to learn from the many quality forwards ahead of him.

But whether it’s Chelsea’s pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho and Simons or a rethinking of his prospects, he now appears open to leaving the club permanently.

It’s fair to say that George leaving on a permanent transfer would be a blow for Enzo Maresca’s side, and may call into question the strategy of stockpiling attackers.

Any permanent deal for Tyrique George should include a buyback clause

Last season gave us a glimpse into George’s potential, as he impressed even in the short stints he was given on both flanks.

At 19, his ceiling is clearly very high and letting him leave the club with no option to go back wouldn’t be wise.

It’s understandable that Chelsea would loan him out to allow him to develop, but if they do go down the route of a permanent deal, there need to be contingencies such as a buyback clause, to cover for the chance that George becomes a star.

Chelsea have many talented forwards at their disposal, but that should not mean they are happy letting a special player slip through the cracks.

Germany may indeed be the ideal spot for George to develop, as we have seen with new arrival Jamie Gittens. But the Blues have to be smart about a player who could end up eclipsing any wide options they have currently.
