'Working so hard': Cody Gakpo admits there is something Liverpool are desperate to do next season

Liverpool have a big season ahead but it is also one of their most exciting in recent history.

The Reds went into the last campaign under relatively little pressure, mainly as they had just switched managers and were expected to go through somewhat of a transition period.

That, of course, did not happen and Arne Slot took the Premier League by storm as Liverpool romped to the title, although things will be much different for the upcoming season.

Pressure and expectations will be much higher, especially because of how well they have recruited this summer, with the majority of people tipping them to go all the way in every competition.

And, Dutchman Cody Gakpo has revealed that despite this added pressure, there is one thing he and his teammates are so desperate to achieve, and it is something Liverpool fans will love to hear.

Liverpool players are desperate to win the Champions League

Winning the Premier League really is an achievement like no other and not many people can say they have won it during their time as a footballer.

However, the Champions League is just as prestigious to some and it is a trophy that Reds fans are very fond of given their history in the competition.

Now, after already getting their hands on the league title, they will of course want to win it again, although Gakpo has also revealed their strong desire to pick up a seventh European trophy as well.

“Yes, it’s true everyone was delighted with winning the Premier League but we lost the final of the Carabao Cup which was a shame,” Gakpo told the Liverpool Echo.

“And then we lost against PSG, who are a very good team. But if you can measure yourself with those guys, it was a close call in both ways.

“They played a very good game in Paris, I think we played a very good game at Anfield, so it could have gone either way but they won and they also won the Champions League. So it was also like: ‘Oh, if we had only beaten them…’

“But that is also part of football and it is the reason why we are working so hard to try and win it.”

Liverpool could win the quadruple next season

Predicting what Liverpool could win next season without them even properly kicking a ball yet might seem ridiculous, but if they end the transfer with the players they want, then almost everyone will have the same view, even rival fans.

They have the manager and they have the players, and now with the new additions to the team, the Reds truly are a force to be reckoned with.

Not only is their starting XI one of the strongest in the league, maybe even the world, but they also have strength in numbers, something that will only increase if they bring in Isak and another centre-back.

It will certainly be a big ask to win everything available to them, but based on the way Liverpool have been moving this summer, it suggests that this is their intention and a genuine possibility.
