Leeds United and Aston Villa could open their doors for Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes this summer.
That’s according to Monday’s edition of A Bola, and they cover Leeds United and Aston Villa when discussing the midfielder’s situation at Southampton.
Fernandes is a product of Sporting’s academy and after spending two years with their first team, he left them for Southampton in August 2024.
He was a regular for Southampton, scoring three goals and registering six assists from 42 games last season. The Saints have been relegated to the Championship.
The report states the 21-year-old is open to making a return to the Premier League this summer.
Aston Villa, Leeds United and Atlético Madrid are all said to be interested, and Fernandes can play in the top flight if he were to join one of them.
Sporting collected €15m from Southampton a year ago and retain a 10% sell-on clause. Therefore, they are keeping an eye on the Portugal U21 international’s situation, to see if Leeds, Aston Villa or another club will try to sign him in this window.
Two months ago, A Bola reported Southampton are said to asking much more than €35m for Fernandes, which may be unrealistic.
