Manchester United remain locked in a battle with Newcastle United over striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig - with the Magpies lodging a bid for the Slovenia international amid concerns they could lose Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

However, United are still in contention despite Newcastle's initial offer falling well short of Leipzig's valuation. A fee surpassing £70m will be needed to prise Sesko away from the German outfit.

Ruben Amorim's side concluded their American tour on Sunday evening against Everton, with new recruit Bryan Mbeumo making his bow.

Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest Manchester United transfer news.

Ruben Amorim insists he harbours no resentment towards Alejandro Garnacho's wish to quit Old Trafford for pastures new.

The winger fell out with Amorim after being omitted from the Europa League final, which United lost 1-0 to Tottenham in Bilbao. Following the disappointment, Garnacho questioned Amorim's selection and indicated he would weigh up his options during the summer break.

Amorim hit back by informing the £40million-rated Garnacho that he wasn't in his long-term thinking and excluded him from United's American pre-season tour, alongside several other players seeking exits.

The Portuguese boss said: "I think with Garnacho, you can understand and you can see that he's talented, he's a really talented boy. But sometimes things don't work out and you cannot explain specifically what it is."

Sesko 'alarm bells'

Arsenal reportedly had "alarm bells" ringing over a potential move for Benjamin Sesko earlier this summer, as per an ESPN report.

After initial discussions with the Bundesliga club, Arsenal bosses quickly realised that any deal for the promising striker would be too costly for a player who has yet to fully prove himself.

The report suggested there were three main reasons why a deal for Sesko raised concerns, including the hefty fee Leipzig demanded and his personal terms.

Despite scoring 21 goals in all competitions last season in only his second season in a top-five European league, sources indicated the club were cautious about the mental pressure Sesko would face leading the Arsenal attack and whether he could handle the scrutiny.

United have reportedly set a £30million asking price for their forward Rasmus Hojlund. The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new striker, with RB Leipzig's £70m-rated Benjamin Sesko being their prime target, although they face competition from Newcastle for his signature.

Hojlund could potentially be part of a player-plus-cash swap deal with Sesko, moving to Leipzig, but it's understood that the Denmark international isn't keen on joining the Bundesliga club.

Last season, Hojlund, who transferred to United from Atalanta for £72m in 2023, netted 10 goals across all competitions and only four in the Premier League, highlighting the need for a more consistent striker to spearhead their attack.
