Ruben Amorim beats three managers to scoop pre-season award, all finished above Man United last season

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United will return to England as the champions of the Premier League Summer Series.

It won’t mean much to the Portuguese head coach given that Ruben Amorim wants to win the Premier League while in charge of Manchester United, but it is certainly a sign of progress.

United drew 2-2 with Everton on Sunday evening to round off their three-match tour of the United States.

Ruben Amorim was “not happy” with the defending against Everton, giving him and his squad plenty to work on in the final two weeks before the Premier League season starts.

But United’s players and Amorim should return to Carrington full of confidence about the season ahead.

Ruben Amorim named Manager of the Tournament in pre-season

After touring Asia in the post-season, United travelled to the United States to participate in the Premier League Summer Series for their pre-season schedule.

The tournament consisted of four Premier League sides who all faced each other in a round robin format – United remained unbeaten with two wins and one draw.

Amorim has been named the Barclays Manager of the Tournament for leading United to the top of the standings – a small and mostly insignificant reward, but certainly something to celebrate.

Amorim stressed that building fitness levels and avoiding injuries was a top priority this summer, but the under-pressure United boss also wanted to instil a winning mentality in his players and they delivered.

United’s best performance under Amorim came during pre-season against Bournemouth, creating plenty of excitement among the fanbase about what is possible in 2025/26.

Ruben Amorim beat three managers who finished above Man United

Amorim will be the first to admit that his first season at United was nothing short of a disaster.

A 15th-placed finish paired with defeat in the Europa League final meant United suffered their worst season in modern history.

But Amorim promised ‘good days are ahead’ in the final game of the 24/25 campaign, and there have certainly been promising signs over the summer.

In particular, Amorim found it difficult to compete in the Premier League last season, but this pre-season gave him a chance to face other top-flight sides in the United States.

Amorim faced Everton’s David Moyes, West Ham’s Graham Potter and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and remained unbeaten. Interestingly, all three of those sides finished above United last summer.

Of course, nothing really counts until the season gets underway later this month, but Amorim is showing big signs of improvement, especially against Premier League opposition.
