Newcastle United's wantaway striker Alexander Isak has been spotted returning to the Magpies' training ground on Monday morning. The Swede began pre-season with the north east club but did not play against Celtic or fly out to Asia for their tour due to an injury.
It would later emerge that Isak had requested to leave the club and explore his options elsewhere. This immediately alerted Liverpool despite the Reds having already bought Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Luis Diaz was sold to Bayern Munich last week, clearing a path to bid for Isak. This was done on Friday with an offer valued at £110m submitted.
Newcastle rejected the transfer out of hand and this appears to have warned off the Reds. The ECHO understands that Liverpool currently consider it 'futile' to bid again while the Magpies are so adamant they will not sell their talisman.
However, in a fresh twist it appears that Newcastle and Isak are potentially set for talks. Sky Sports have shared images of the Swede arriving at Newcastle's training ground.
The manner of his return is unknown but journalist Pete Graves has shed further light on the situation. It is understood that the Newcastle squad only landed in the UK at 8.40 this morning following the conclusion of their pre-season tour.
Eddie Howe has therefore decided to give those who attended the day off as they recuperate from the long flight back home. As for Isak, he spent last week training in San Sebastian with his old club Real Sociedad as the uncertainty surrounding his future continues.
