Major blow as Leeds United deal with injury problems ahead of Everton opener

There is just over a week left till Leeds United fans experience the Premier League once again. The club’s last taste of top flight football was in 2023 when they were relegated.

Daniel Farke and the technical team will be hoping that is not the case this time around. Leeds have used the transfer market to strengthen their team in many areas. Last season, the team lacked depth and quality in some areas. Especially in attack, Joel Piroe had to play in almost every league game because Patrick Bamford was never fit.

Leeds also struggled in the middle of the campaign when Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev suffered long term injuries. That will not be an issue this upcoming season, as the club have bolstered the defence and midfield.

However, the club is still looking to add two attacking players, as the deadline draws closer.

Leeds United injury problems in pre-season

Leeds’ pre-season camp started off successfully, but in recent days there have been some problems behind the scenes. According to Daniel Farke, some players have picked up injuries which puts their participation in the Premier League opener in doubt. Latest signing Lucas Perri missed the Villarreal game, with Farke explaining his absence:

“We have Lucas Perri who is building his fitness after a little injury he had when he signed,” said Farke. “He’s more or less just with us since the middle or end of the training camp. He came with a light injury, has not been involved in team training so far. He’s back in specific goalkeeper training. Tomorrow or latest next week he’ll join us in team training.

“We’ll see [if he’ll make the season opener against Everton].”

Sebastiaan Bornauw has also been out with a calf injury, and could be out for a while

There was also serious concern on the day of the Villarreal game. Both Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson seem to have picked up knocks, which is not a good sign with days left till the season begins.

Daniel Farke shared an update on the duo.

“Jayden Bogle has problems with his hip flexor, it’s a bit of a concern,” said Farke. “Not sure if I have him available for AC Milan, I hope to have him back as soon as possible and for the last week of preparations. He’s important for us, he was outstanding last season. On the full-back positions, if there is an injury – I was also sweating a bit when Gabi [Gudmundsson] went down – we’re a bit thin.”

The Leeds boss also revealed that Dan James and Jack Harrison picked up knocks in training.

Bad sign ahead of Everton game

With so many concerns weeks ahead of the Premier League opener, Leeds will now need to monitor these situations. Daniel Farke also alluded to the fact that the club needs more reinforcements after this injury news.

A move for Bilal Khannouss could be on the cards after the news from last week.
