Newcastle United have Champions League winner in their sights if Benjamin Sesko deal falls…

· 4 August 2025, 13:00

**Newcastle United are waiting for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko to decide on his next move after bidding £70 million for the 22-year-old.**

Manchester United have still to make their move, and it does feel as though that's what Sesko is waiting for, although with Rasmus Hojlund digging his heels in and refusing a move, the Red Devils may struggle to stump up the cash.

Newcastle need a quick response from Sesko as Alexander Isak moves nearer and nearer to a St James' Park exit, and the Magpies simply can't allow him to leave without a suitable replacement coming in.

Should Sesko reject Newcastle, all is not lost as another familiar name has resurfaced as a potential target for Eddie Howe.

Goncalo Ramos is an option for Newcastle United

Newcastle have Goncalo Ramos back in their sights

According to [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14966671/Newcastles-preferred-deadline-Benjamin-Sesko-decision-Champions-League-winner-added-Eddie-Howes-striker-shortlist-surprise-makes-case-replace-Son-Heung-min-Tottenham-5-THINGS-LEARNED.html), Newcastle are once again looking at Goncalo Ramos, who they had in their sights a couple of years ago before signing Alexander Isak. The former Benfica star moved to Paris Saint-Germain a year later, going on to bag 33 goals in 86 games.

Now, having lifted the Champions League trophy with the French club, Newcastle could turn to the 24-year-old Portuguese after PSG intimated they'd be open to a sale this summer.

While Benjamin Sesko is a couple of years younger than Ramos, he is also a lot more raw and would take more time to get up to the kind of level we'd need, whereas you'd expect Ramos would almost hit the ground running.

Goncalo Ramos is not a bad backup option to have

------------------------------------------------

We'd still prefer Sesko, though. His size and style make him feel a lot more suited to Newcastle, and there's a lot of potential there for Eddie Howe to unlock.

However, it's good to know we still have another top-quality option available if the Sesko move doesn't work out.

Let's just hope that Ramos is ahead of the likes of Ollie Watkins and Nicolas Jackson on the wishlist.
