Southampton reject new £43m total bid for star winger

Southampton starlet Tyler Dibling has been the subject of a third rejected bid from Everton for the youngster, according to Sky Sports.

Southampton are back in the Championship this season following a disastrous 12-point Premier League campaign last term.

Despite their struggles in the top flight, an instant return is being targeted this season and the Saints will feel more than capable of achieving just that.

The club moved to recruit Will Still as manager this summer, an appointment which has bred excitement amongst the fanbase, though have naturally lost a handful of their stars following relegation. Kamaldeen Sulemana has parted ways for Atalanta in Italy, Jan Bednarek has joined Porto, whilst Aaron Ramsdale has linked up with Newcastle United on loan amongst other departures.

Interest in the services of teenage talent Tyler Dibling had been expected this summer, and negotiations over an exit now seem to be speeding up despite Southampton rejecting a third bid from Everton for the winger.

According to Sky Sports, the Toffees tabled a bid of £35m plus £8m in add-0ns for Dibling. The Saints’ valuation is said to be £45m, however, meaning David Moyes’ side have again fell short of the mark.

Fellow reporter Ben Jacobs also chipped in, suggesting that there is optimism a deal can be struck and that a fixed fee of £40m may be enough for Southampton to sanction the exit.

Tyler Dibling: A star in the making

Despite the Saints’ struggles last term, Dibling provided one of few bright sparks in what was ultimately a dismal campaign.

The 19-year-old only made one Championship appearance during the 2023/24 season, though featured 33 times in the Premier League during the 2024/25 season in what turned out to be his breakthrough. Dibling made 38 appearances in total, including performances in both domestic cups, scoring four goals and assisting three.

Featuring mainly as a right-winger, but also as an attacking midfielder and centre-forward, the Englishman showed maturity beyond his years and alerted a handful of top clubs with his showings.

With just two years left on his deal at St Mary’s, Southampton run the risk of losing value should they hold him back. Allowing his departure could see him rise to the next level in coming seasons.

Southampton in need of wide reinforcements

Should Dibling sign for Everton, Still’s side are bound to need reinforcements for their upcoming second tier campaign.

Besides the youngster, Ryan Fraser and Samuel Edozie are the only natural wingers at Southampton and both primarily play on the left. Edozie himself seems set to depart for Liam Rosenior’s RC Strasbourg in Ligue 1, so any incoming fees for the pair must be spent wisely on adequate replacements.

The Saints boast one of the division’s strongest squads, though heading into the new season short of options out wide would be massively concerning.
